Preliminary Feasibility Study

Project objective

The objective of the study is to redesign the junctions at the Miramare interchange and the intersection between SS 1 “Via Aurelia” and Via Scotto/Via Valloria, providing new roundabouts to improve traffic flow and road safety.
The study takes into account the solutions planned for the Miramare interchange and the transformations envisaged by the Waterfront Masterplan, in order to ensure consistency and coordination among the various infrastructures. The objective is to achieve an integrated and functional road network capable of accommodating both urban and port traffic needs, as well as the new configuration of public space and the cycle–pedestrian links.

Main works

Miramare roundabout
Compact roundabout (outer radius 19.50 m; 7.00 m circulatory lane) connecting SS 1 “Via Aurelia” to the Miramare interchange to the north, and interfacing to the south with the master concept of the Technical-Economic Feasibility Study for the redevelopment of “Quadrante 2 – Ex Funivie”, developed by Tecne S.p.A.

Via Scotto roundabout
Compact roundabout (outer radius 16.50 m; 7.00 m circulatory lane) transforming the existing intersection between SS 1 “Via Aurelia” and Via Scotto/Via Valloria.

Cycle–pedestrian routes
Cycle–pedestrian routes defined along the entire “Via Aurelia” section involved in the intervention, in compliance with the technical and identity standards of the “Ciclovia Tirrenica”.
