Project objective
The objective of this project is the replacement of Overpass No. 26 at km 40+365 (crossing point of the A5 Torino–Aosta motorway by Provincial Road SP 68 – Municipality of Banchette), including planimetric and vertical alignment adjustments and a new connection to SP 68 (decommissioning of the existing loop and tie-in to the designed roundabout), in compliance with the site geological–geotechnical and seismic framework and with Use Class IV. The intervention also includes the replacement of the SP 68 box underpass and the construction/upgrading of retaining walls protecting the embankment and adjacent areas.
Main works
Overpass
Single-span simply supported straight-axis bridge with design span (distance between supports) of 31.20 m. Composite steel–concrete deck (main girders and transverse beams acting compositely with a reinforced-concrete slab connected with studs), on reinforced-concrete abutments and bearings designed for service and seismic actions; integration of bridge-edge barriers, kerbs, waterproofing and deck drainage, and reinstatement of road pavement layers and signage.
SP 68 underpass
Reinforced-concrete box culvert with clear internal finished dimensions of 11.50 × 6.47 m and an overall longitudinal extension of approximately 13.00 m, replacing the existing structure, serving the local axis parallel to the A5. The side wall on the motorway side is designed to be built directly adjacent to the new motorway overpass abutment, whereas the wall on the Samone side provides retention of the back embankment, similarly to the two wing walls provided both northbound and southbound, continuing from the box wall.
Retaining walls
Reinforced-concrete works retaining the road embankment, on the right-hand side (section safeguarding the local road) and on the left-hand side (section protecting private property).
