Project objective

Within the works for the construction of the “Turin–Orbassano–Pinerolo” motorway section, our Company developed the executive construction design of the motorway alignment and of all the planned structures.
The motorway section constitutes the completion of the existing route: overall length approx. 11.365 km, divided into three construction lots carried out concurrently.
Our scope covered Lots 2 and 3, with lengths of 6.130 km and 2.950 km, respectively.

Main works

LOT 2

“Piscina” interchange
The interchange includes two deceleration lanes (exiting traffic) and two acceleration lanes (entering traffic). The ramps tie into a large roundabout at a lower elevation than the motorway carriageways, providing the connection to the existing road network. Four motorway overpasses were built, each with 3 spans (15–25–15 m): decks with precast prestressed RC beams and in‑situ slab made continuous between spans (kinematic‑chain scheme to avoid joints at piers); RC abutments and piers on shallow foundations.

“Cà Bianca” underpass
Reinforced‑concrete box culvert, longitudinal length 27.50 m, with 1.0 m thick foundation slab, 1.0 m thick walls and 5.50 m clear height; horizontal top slab with overall thickness 90 cm. Clear span 9.50 m.

Railway underpass – Turin–Pinerolo line
The railway line crosses the motorway axis at a small skew angle, requiring a long cut‑and‑cover tunnel (≈90 m) built without interrupting rail traffic, with RC walls and foundations, roof with precast prestressed beams and an in‑situ cast slab. The structure has a clear width between side walls of 16.20 m.
Overpass of Provincial Road No. 146 and overpass of Buriasco municipal road
3‑span structure (16–32–16 m) with precast prestressed RC beams and in‑situ slab; slab continuity between spans (kinematic‑chain scheme) to eliminate joints at piers; two‑column piers and column abutments connected by an RC beam; lateral finishes with prefabricated GFRC shells.

LOT 3

“Riva” interchange
It includes two deceleration lanes (exiting traffic) and two acceleration lanes (entering traffic).
The ramps tie into a large roundabout at a lower elevation than the motorway carriageways, providing the connection to the existing road network.
Four motorway overpasses were built, each with 3 spans (15–25–15 m): decks with precast prestressed RC beams and in‑situ slab with slab continuity between spans (kinematic‑chain scheme); RC abutments and piers on shallow foundations.
