A.T.I.V.A. S.p.A. – Turin Ring Road Motorway System. A5 motorway “Torino – Quincinetto”. “Ivrea hydraulic node – 2nd completion phase”. Final Design – Structural part.

Project objective

The project aims to mitigate flood risk along the A5 Torino–Quincinetto motorway between approximately km 36+400 and km 45+650, through geometric and functional upgrades consistent with the PAI and road standards, within the 2nd completion phase of the Ivrea Hydraulic Node, ensuring service continuity even during flood events of the Dora Baltea and Rio Ribes.
Our support to design concerned preliminary structural assessment and the drafting of the design documents for overpassing and underpassing structures, including preliminary sizing, construction-stage studies under live traffic conditions and the design of temporary shoring/support works.

Main works of competence

Overpasses (overbridges)
Replacement of existing overpasses with single-span structures (≈41–60 m), without piers in the central reserve, adopting composite steel–concrete decks to ensure clear span and safety of the motorway alignment; examples include SP 22 Castellamonte (km 40+187), former Ivrea interchange (km 40+365), Banchette–Salerano (km 40+784) and other structures along the section.

Underpasses
Upgrading or reconstruction of local underpasses using reinforced-concrete box culverts (including study of “new–existing” connections and partial demolition works) in coherence with the new embankments (e.g., Rio Ribes km 38+133, Cemetery km 38+458, s.v. Pavone km 38+767, s.c. Baio Dora km 42+950).

Box culverts and minor crossings
Replacement or extension of minor box culverts and small crossings with culverts/box structures (typically from 2.00×2.00 up to 5.00×5.50) at watercourses and minor crossings (e.g., Rio Acque Rosse km 43+660 and a series of small bridges between km 42+102 and km 44+904).

Assia stream bridge (km 45+366)
Bridge with cross-section to be widened by approximately 2 metres per side, consistent with the new motorway cross-section.
