Project objective

The purpose of the design is the overall redefinition of the back-of-port areas and infrastructures in order to implement a complete and functional transport/logistics infrastructure system serving port traffic.
The scope includes multiple interventions ranging from the construction of the new customs gate structure and related office buildings, to the creation of heavy-vehicle parking areas serving the port, from the redefinition of the customs and national areas to the redesign of the access road network (plan and profile) both to the gate and to the premises of Interporto di Vado I.O. S.p.A.

Main works

Road network, yard and parking areas
The plan layout of the back-of-port yard organisation provides for two crucial nodes:
in the national area, a large-diameter roundabout (D = 46.0 m) connecting the Carrara tunnel, the customs gate and the access road to V.I.O.;
within the customs areas, a large-diameter roundabout (D = 50.0 m) adjacent to the gate yard to distribute traffic between the overpass connection to the Multipurpose Platform, the port/Reefer/rail yard area, the gate and the parking areas north of the office building.

Gate structure and office buildings
For the gate structure, intended for the Customs Agency and other institutional bodies, a bridge-type solution was adopted, acting both as a canopy over the traffic lanes—similar to traditional shelters—and as an office block directly above the roadway.
Architecturally, it consists of three parallelepiped volumes: two at ground level alongside the lanes, and one suspended and slightly cantilevered on the north side, for a gross floor area of over 1500 m² distributed over 3 storeys, housing offices and technical rooms for gate control and management.
