Project objective

Upgrading of Lot 2 of Provincial Road SP32 along the section between the SP39 and SP36 roundabouts, increasing the number of traffic lanes per direction (currently one lane per direction) to improve traffic flow and road safety.
The upgrade also includes a short section of Provincial Road SP36.
At Final Design stage, the roadway alignment design was developed, together with the structural design of retaining works and extensions of cross-drainage culverts, plus geological, environmental and hydraulic invariance studies.

Main works

SP32 upgrading
Malpensa-side section
From the SP39 roundabout: three lanes for 300 m; then, via a 150 m variable-width transition, four lanes (the two carriageways physically separated by a concrete New Jersey barrier) for approx. 1,300 m up to the Via Cattabrega roundabout serving Mariano Comense.
Via Cattabrega roundabout
At about three-quarters of the alignment, the roundabout is redesigned with an outer diameter of 50.00 m and a 9.00 m circulatory carriageway.
Bergamo-side section
Over 600 m towards the grade-separated junction to SP36, with an additional lane on the southbound carriageway only.

SP36 interface section
Doubling of the current single-lane carriageway over just over 200 m between the grade-separated roundabout connecting to SP32 and the next roundabout northbound towards Cantù.
